yoga mat

Whether you practice yoga at home, or in a studio, the yoga mat you use is important. While stretching and relaxing you don’t want to have to be worried about your mat taking off across the floor. Take a bit of time and find the mat that will work best for you. They have a line of mats that are not only comfortable to use, they are environmentally friendly too.

The Plyopic All-in-One Yoga Mat

This mat is wonderful! And my favorite of the mats. It is longer and wider than most other yoga mats, giving you plenty of room to stretch and not run out of the mat. It is extra dense too, giving the cushioning needed to prevent tired wrists and ankles, and at the same time giving it a long life. You won’t need to replace this mat any time soon. The rubber-based construction makes it virtually non-slipping on any type of floor. You can get this mat cheapest on Amazon. I haven’t been able to find it cheaper elsewhere.

The Heathyoga ProGripYoga Mat

There is something to be said about a yoga mat the feels great under your hands. The cushion on this mat makes it a favorite. It is sticky, staying in place, and keeping my hands from slipping. It is ten inches longer than most mats, giving you room to move around. Made of all rubber, it is environmentally safe and biodegradable. Only downside to this mat is that it’s quite bulky and heavy. – Doesn’t roll up too well either from what I’ve seen. It’s available on Amazon here.

BalanceFrom GoCloud Mat

This mat is a bit longer than most yoga mats. The added length makes for less shifting around to stay on the mat. Both sides are textured, keeping the mat on the floor and your hands and feet on the mat. The texture is great if you are doing hot yoga. The thickness of this mat helps it to keep from rolling or bunching up beneath you. One problem though: It’s durability. People who practice yoga regularly, will tell you this mat wears out in about 6 months. This mat isn’t too expensive though, you can get it pretty cheap through Amazon here.

I have been through quite a few yoga mats in my lifetime, but not many have come even close to comparing to the Manduka 71-Inch PROlite Travel Yoga Mat.

What first brought my attention to this mat was when I was doing research online for yoga mats and found that it had an 82% customer satisfaction rating. This might not be amazing for most products, but for a yoga mat, it’s incredible. Keep in mind that most yoga mats produce a smell that will stay on you for the rest of the day, and that stability is hard to come by. That’s why the scores are relatively low compared to other types of products.
The difference with the PROlite Travel Yoga Mat is that there will be no smell emanating from it and the stability is superior. There are a few other things about the PROlite Travel Yoga Mat that you should know as well.

Manduka 71-Inch PROlite Travel Yoga and Pilates Mat

I had a difficult time choosing between the color options. They include midnight, olive, purple, orchid, and pinot. I usually like to go with a unique color, but being that all these color options are unique, I found myself in a bind. Since all the colors were unique, I took the opposite approach and went with the most traditional color, which was midnight. This allows me to use it anywhere without drawing attention (which is new for me). If you like to draw attention, I would recommend the orchid.

As far as the weight goes, this yoga mat only weighs 4.5 pounds. This is nice because it allows me to bring it with me whenever I go on the road, whether by car, train, or plane. The material is non-stick, which is an obvious benefit. In addition to that, it can be used on hard as well as soft surfaces. There are many yoga mats that wouldn’t work on a beach. This one can. And there’s nothing more relaxing to me than yoga on the beach.

Overall, if you’re looking for a yoga mat, I would highly recommend the Manduka 71-Inch PROlite Travel Yoga and Pilates Mat. It’s sturdy, resistant, durable and designed to last your whole lifetime.
Thick yoga mats are growing in popularity for their comfortable performance and thick padding. The added thickness can offer additional comfort for sensitive elbows and knees, as well as for vigorous practices to help absorb more impact while transitioning between poses. Many of the thicker mats are also longer, ideal for tall students or anyone who likes to have extra room.

As the thickest of Jade’s yoga mat line, this generously sized mat offers a superior grip that goes very well with hot classes. The thickness does make it a bit harder to keep rolled up, so a good bag or strap will be useful when taking it places, but the cushioning from it cradles body parts during poses. This mat is quite popular at my yoga class.

For anyone who needs a thick mat that’s latex-free, this is definitely a good choice as latex free mats can be harder to find as most are made from natural rubber. The padding on this mat does make it very comfortable, but it does tend to roll up at the edges. This mat is better suited to floor or seated poses than an active practice due to its lack of traction and stickiness. But for $20 you can’t go wrong.

Whether you need a thicker mat to cushion sore knees and elbows, or just want to try something new, a thick mat can offer a lot to a yoga practice. Thick mats are designed for comfort and stability, which is something many students enjoy in their practice. Finding a good mat can take some time, so it is important to figure out what your particular needs are before choosing a mat.

Once you have found your ideal studio and favorite teacher within it, the next step on your yoga journey is discovering a mat that allows you to enjoy each yoga class to the fullest. To the untrained eye it may seem that all yoga mats are made alike; yet long-time users know that the wrong mat can make all the difference not only during class, but even afterward if your joints are not properly supported. Now that yoga has hit the mainstream with gusto there are countless mats available for the purchase of varying sizes, shapes, materials, and prices.
Below are three cotton yoga mats that have stood out above the rest:

Ajna Eco Organic Yoga Mat

Perfect for eco-friendly yogis, the MindBodyBliss mat is made from all-natural cotton, is unbleached and completely free of other noxious chemicals. It offers comfort and support for even the most strenuous yet relaxing asana practice; when finished, simply roll it back up and use the ties to fasten it shut. Attach the convenient shoulder straps to carry it to and from yoga class.

With nearly three inches of batting packaged inside the YogaAccessories mat, you are be assured that it is both comfortable and will protect your body against possible damage. Made with organic cotton and without dyes, this mat is safe for both you and the environment. The cover is removable and can be easily washed; just roll up the mat after each use to maintain its shape and easily transport it. You can check it out here.
Whether you want a mat for restorative yoga or simply one that is softer and feels fantastic under your bare feet, one of these three cotton yoga mats will be a likely fit for your practice and body. In addition, they are eco-conscious and are a breeze to clean; when you have so many other duties to complete in your daily life, worrying about your yoga mat should be the last of them.

This is like a towel and mat in one. It is as big as a typical yoga mat, so I can do all kinds of poses without touching the floor. It is very absorbent and catches all the sweat, from me or from my water bottle. The rubber nubs on the back keep me from slipping and sliding while stretching or holding a pose. It holds on a smooth floor and on low pile carpet, which is great for when I take the mat to the office or on vacation.I don’t have to buy cleaning sprays anymore, since I can just toss the whole thing into the washer and dryer. A foam mat would never even fit into the machine, I tried. Despite its generous size, it weighs just over a pound. Personally, I like buying from a company whose mission statement I agree with. Yogitoes is a green company and gives financial support to beneficial charities.I actually had a hard time picking out what color I wanted. The choices available are stunning. I have owned other kinds of yoga mats, but they were hard to carry and got filthy quickly. Grosser still is the stock mats that the studio lends out. I have used those in a pinch, but never again! The portability and easy maintenance of this product is its number one selling points for me.

I first came accross this yoga mat after seeing how popular it was at my yoga class. 2 years on, I can confidentally say that the Manduka Blackmat Pro is one of the best yoga mats available, no question about it. I have owned many different types of yoga mats and this one is by far the most comfortable. This yoga mat is currently on sale at Amazon.

Manduka BlackMat PRO Review

This thick yoga mat is durable without being too heavy or overly thick, making it ideal for taking to a class. It does have a little bit of a smell that goes away after it has been unrolled and aired out a bit prior to using it. The mat is very durable and has an excellent grip which is ideal for anyone who enjoys a sticky mat. The bag included with the kit fits the mat and basic accessories without feeling overloaded.

This mat is 71″ long, making it a great purchase for anyone on the taller side.It is very thick, a full 1/4″ which makes it a very good on hard floors and those with knee, wrist or other joint concerns. It’s slip-resistant and yet non-sticky Manduka Black mat Pro is also a bit wider than standard size mats, ideal for practices where you need a little more room to move around on. The extra length is also good for folding the edge over for even more padding during poses where more cushioning is needed. The cushioning of this mat resists becoming flat and will bounce back after use.

The mat has two different sides, a normal “top” side, and a bumpy “bottom” side. The bumps keep the mat from sliding, offering a far superior grip than other mats offer. For hot and Bikram classes, the very sturdy no-slip grip of the Manduka Blackmat Pro is perfect, it resists sweat and keeps the hands and feet in place.
I know a lot of people really like this mat which is another reason I decided to review it. Here is one review:

This Black Mat Pro is AWESOME!!! I’ve purchased the cheaper $15 – $20 mats in the past and there is a definite difference. This mat stays in place on the floor and does not bunch up. Also, I do not slide on it.
Not completely flawless though..

One common complaint I’ve heared is that the Manduka Blackmat Pro is a bit heavier than most mats (due to its extra thickness). It still weighs under 10 pounds though so really isn’t too much of a problem. If you plan on traveling long distances with it I recommend investing in either a mat strap or larger bag to carry it.
The Manduka BlackMat PRO Yoga and Pilates Mat comes with a bit of a higher price tag, but its superior performance makes it worth the investment. It’s extremely durable and is designed to last you your whole lifetime.
If you are interested in buying this yoga mat, I highly recommend you check it out on Amazon here.

In the physical fitness world, there is nothing like taking care of your body with maximum effort. The average workout enthusiasts lives by the motto that their body is their temple. We should look at the world with that same care and want products that are natural and Eco-friendly. For our dedicated yoga masters and students I’ve decided to review the three most popular mats that are natural and Eco-friendly that get the job done!

One of the most durable mats available and probably my favorite of the three (I’m a big Manduka fan). The Manduka eKO 71-inch mat offers a thick 5mm cushioned experience. Free from PVC and plasticizers, this rubber mat is a bit longer and wider than most other mats, making it nice for taller students. It is very comfortable and sticky which gives a good grip but it can take a week or two for the initial smell to wear off. You can buy it here from Amazon.

Gaiam Essentials Yoga Mat

This 3/16th inch mat is made of open-cell rubber and free of the harmful chemicals used in many mats. It comes in two lengths – 68 and 74 inch, both generous sizes. This mat is very sticky and resists compression well, so students who practice hot or very active yoga practices will find better support with it. Because it absorbs moisture well, students who do sweat a great deal may find they need to wash it more frequently. You can get this on Amazon here.

This mat has a stronger rubber smell than most mats and can take longer to air out before the smell dissipates. It should be washed very carefully as the sticky traction of the mat can break down with heavy washing. The mat is dense and can be comfortable for students who need thicker padding for their practice but may not be ideal for active practices. Comes in multiple colors – check it out here.

Many of the eco-friendly mats are thicker and more resilient but the trade-off is they are almost always made out of natural rubber to avoid PVC and toxic fillers, making them smell stronger during the initial break-in phase. Natural rubber mats are not a good option for yoga students allergic or sensitive to latex, so use caution when trying them.
